Meet Laura
Finding the right therapist is personal. You want to feel understood, comfortable being yourself, and confident that you’re working with someone who has the experience to help.
I’m Laura Barnett—a clinical social worker and Registered Art Therapist who has been practicing psychotherapy since 2009. I work with women and mothers navigating anxiety, trauma and PTSD, ADHD and emotional overwhelm, perfectionism, life transitions, and the ways stress can show up in both the mind and body.
My approach is integrative, combining talk therapy, art therapy, and Somatic Experiencing®, along with other evidence-based approaches. I believe therapy should consider the whole person—not just the symptoms or challenges that brought you through the door.
Together, we’ll explore patterns, understand what may be keeping you stuck, and identify realistic steps toward meaningful change. You’ll have an active role in shaping our work, and we’ll move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable.
A little about my background
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Michigan State University, my Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, and my Master of Counseling Psychology in Art Therapy from Adler University. My clinical experience includes working in private practice, community mental health, inpatient and emergency department social work, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, and school social work.
I also bring a personal understanding of motherhood and the many roles women navigate. Taking time to raise my two daughters gave me a deeper appreciation for the transitions, joys, challenges, and evolving sense of identity that can come with motherhood. That experience continues to shape the way I work with women and mothers.
I’m passionate about creating a space for women slow down, reconnect with themselves, and better understand what they need as they navigate change. Together, we can explore what may be keeping you stuck, work through challenges with compassion, and move toward a life that feels more authentic, balanced, and sustainable.
Choosing a therapist is an important decision. I offer a brief phone consultation so we can talk about what you’re looking for and determine whether we might be a good fit.
